Saving the Girl

A Benevolent Act The Incident While traveling through a wood, the monster hears a young girl's laughter. He sees her fall into a rapid river. Without hesitation, he rushes to her rescue, pulling her to shore. He tries to revive her, feeling a sense of satisfaction at having done good. The Reward of Kindness A man, presumably the girl's father, appears and sees the monster with the girl. He mistakes the monster's intentions and, in terror, tears the girl away and shoots the monster with a gun. The monster is wounded and left in agony. The Turning Point This event shatters the monster's remaining hope. He had performed a selfless act, yet he was repaid with violence. He realizes that his appearance will always provoke fear and hatred, no matter what he does. This experience hardens his heart and fuels his desire for revenge.
